CAUSATIVE DRUGS
Reglan/Compazine
Induced Tardive Dyskinesia
Tardive Dyskinesia is
commonly caused by the long
term use of Reglan and/or Compazine. Administration of these medications
without proper monitoring for lengths of time exceeding twelve weeks can often result in
a settlement or verdict in favor of the person who has developed Tardive
Dyskinesia, especially where the doctor
was aware, or should have been aware, of the development of abnormal
movements. Gastroenterologists and family practitioners prescribing Reglan
(Metoclopramide) are often ignorant to the risk and the subtleties of the insidious development
of Tardive Dyskinesia.
Off Label Use
Off-Label uses of Risperdal, Zyprexa,
Geodon, Abilifi, Mellaril, Triavil and/or other neuroleptic medications are also worthy
of detailed evaluation (off-label use is defined as use for other than
schizophrenia or active psychosis – i.e., Mellaril for sleep, Risperdal
for OCD, ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, Alzheimer’s, children, etc.) However,
these types of generalizations are very hard to make and each case must be
thoroughly and carefully evaluated on an individual basis. The lawyers at
McGlynn, Glisson & Koch will do this for you – at no out of pocket cost
where possible.
